On the 8th of Septembre 1986, Mr. António Martins established the company Solbel, located in the heart of Lisbon. His duty was to supply wines and spirits to an exclusiv group of clients, mostly restaurant owners, spreaded around the city.

It was a 3 persons business. Some deliveries were made every day, but soon the clients got used to visit the shop and carry their own bottles, as an excuse to shake Mr. Martins hand, which became almost a ritual.

The company grew up with more people, more items to sell, more clients, more suppliers, more partnerships, more square meters, more delivery cars and much more love for the business.

By the end of the ‘90s, Mr. Martins “the Mister”, developed his legacy through the 2^nd generation (his son Ricardo and daughter Dina) making the business rise.

Today is the 8th of Septembre of 2026 and the 3^rd generation is now taking its first steps.

MG Spirit | Cocteles Ready to Drink Born in Barcelona

This 2011 vintage has been bottled to celebrate the 2026 Lunar New Year, a global release to celebrate the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Horse. All the 817 bottles are numbered and were selected from the cask number 37607.

The nose opens with a burst of orange zest and dried cranberries before moving in a sweeter direction with notes of honeycomb and candy floss.

Throughout, notes of cinnamon, tiramisu, mulled wine, and even jalapeno leap out and pull the nose in different directions. There’s something new to be found every time you pick up the glass.

The taste is a bit more structured than the nose suggests, but still full of varied flavours like candied almonds, toffee apples, sultanas, and salted liquorice. The finish is long and round with lingering baking spice.

It’s a First Fill Pedro Ximénez Sherry Butt  with 56,5% alc./vol. with natural strenght and colour.

SOLBEL will add this award to all consecutive awards as “PME Líder” and as “Company of the Year” in the Food sector.

It’s a pleasure to share that last October, Solbel in partnership with the award winning Tomatin destillary, promoted the tour “TOMATIN Masterclass” by Scott Adamson, Blender and Global Brand Ambassador for Tomatin, which turned into a huge success.

Masterclasses took place in Lisbon at Solbel premises, in Oporto at the great whisky enthusiast Eddie’s Club, and in Algarve at the exclusive hotel Vila Vita Parc.

The tasting included Tomatin Legacy, the “Best Scotch Whisky in World” (Tomatin Highland Whisky: Award-Winning Scotch Whisky), Tomatin 12Y, Tomatin Portuguese Collection 2006 (Madeira casks, Porto casks, Moscatel casks) and, new in Portugal, Tomatin Sherry casks 12Y. The event counted around 70 professional attendants from the whisky world.

The Tasting Alliance have announced the highly anticipated results of the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Tomatin Distillery is delighted to announce Tomatin 12 Year Old, 18 Year Old and 45 Year Old (Travel Retail Exclusive) were all awarded with the prestigious Double Gold medal. As this is Tomatin 18 Year Old’s third consecutive Double Gold medal, it has also been awarded Platinum for the first time! Judges awarded the Cù Bòcan 15 Year Old Double Gold for the second year running, and Cù Bòcan 12 Year Old Batch #1 with Gold.

SOLBEL presented a Masterclass on the 12^th of March for clients and customers, showing all the wines from Herdade da Aldeia de Cima (HAC), Alentejo. The tasting was leaded by João Paulo Martins, one of the greatest and most experienced wine critics in Portugal.

Everyone had the chance to taste the full range of wines HAC (Reserva Branco 2021, Garrafeira Branco 2020, Reserva Tinto 2020, Garrafeira Myndru Tinto 2019, Garrafeira Tinto 2019) and also the most recent and spectacular typical Portuguese brandy “Aguardente de Medronho”.

This event was born from the partnership of SOLBEL in this exclusive wine project owned by Luísa Amorim.

TOMATIN, recently knowned as one of the best “single malt Scotch whiskies” in the world in 2022, is celebrating the 125th anniversary of it’s own distillery.

Therefore, Tomatin presents now the Portuguese Collection, a very limited edition made with whiskies of 2006 aged for 15 years in used barrels of Port wine, “Moscatel de Setúbal” and Madeira, all fortified wines.

This unique collection is now available in Portugal, imported and distributed by Solbel.

Tomatin Legacy was awarded an extraordinary 99/100 resulting in a tremendous "Gold Outstanding" award! The Judges’ comments on this exceptional single malt were: “Ripe honeyed lemons and sweet vanilla fudge characterise the nose, while a pleasant fresh grapefruit flavour comes through wonderfully on the palate creating a superb lift. Fragrant and complex, with a harmonious, lingering finish.”

The Tomatin 12 year old was presented Gold after achieving 95/100 from the judging panel, with the following comments: “Rich tarte tatin defines the nose with delicate aromas of sweet baking spice and white pepper. Ripe and fruity on the palate, marvellously complex and layered, with a rich, malty undercurrent. Excellent harmony and length on the finish.”

The Spanish gin MG is now available in Portugal, another great brand represented and distributed by SOLBEL.

MG gin has been reinvented from the original 1940’s recipe, handcrafted and distilled in traditional copper still. The base is juniper, handpicked in Teruel (Spain) fields. It’s brother MG Rosa (pink) has the same base but added with fresh strawberry syrup.

This is a transparent and crystal gin, steel-tone rim and flashing bright dots in a clear background. Very elegant nose, clear notes of juniper and wet grass, with a balsamic and resin style.

Very tasty and delicate palate, aromatic and with notes of juniper berries. Perfet destillation time with the best alcohol balance. For sure, gin tonic is the perfect, honest and fair way to serve thig MG gin.
